« Feast For Water » is the second album from Italian experimental doom foursome MESSA. Sophisticated, dark and soulful to the core, « Feast For Water » is a multi-faceted doom record from a band who is not afraid of putting sonic experimentation to serve their spiritual and transcendantal intentions, using jazz, classic rock and drone/doom metal all in one to create beautiful, unique soundscapes.

« If occult doom as a genre is going to progress, or evolve, it’s going to need to start embracing this kind of forward-thinking experimentation, and Messa are leading the way. » Noisey states. Enter the band’s mystical and ethereal world of darkness with the full stream below:

Read MESSA’s insight on « Feast their new album: « Feast for Water is our second record. We like to think that ‘Feast for Water’ is the second part of the mass we began with ‘Belfry’. It’s centered on the introspective, symbolic and ritual features of that liquid element. We chose that concept because it represents an idea of beginning, of fluid power, of pureness and simplicity. Water has always been important in rituals as a gateway to initiation. The tone of this record represents this concept very clearly. We tried to achieve a more ‘submerged’ sound instead of getting the usual fuzzy, wide-open guitars in order to give the listener a feeling of apnea. The choice of including Rhodes piano undoubtedly made everything sound more ‘jazzy’, very diverse from the fuzziness of our first record ‘Belfry’. This album is more complex and thoughtful, the songwriting is less about improvisation. We chose to convey darker vibes. All in this record is tightly related to water. We like to think that the cover speaks for itself. »

Out April 6th on Aural Music – Preorder

Feast for Water is a revelation. (…) Few bands are operating at this level of symbiosis between smooth and heavy, and Messa nails that juxtaposition here.” Heavy Blog Is Heavy

Feast for Water unfolds a world well worth taking the risk of not making it back.” The Obelisk

50 minutes of highly mysterious and intricately crafted music.” Infernal Masquerade

MESSA emerged on the first day of 2014. Marco and Sara started to develop the basic concept while writing the first songs. Later on, Alberto and Rocco joined the band. The extreme diversity of their musical background immediately proved to be essential in the construction of the band’s sound. In 2016, Messa signed a deal with Aural Music and subsequently released their first opus, « Belfry », which was brought on tour extensively across Europe and USA. A flexy disc and a Picture 7’’ were released before the band got to work on their second album titled « Feast for Water », due out April 6th on Aural Music.

MESSA play evoking doom metal with a dark jazz twist. Deliciously haunting female vocals, Rhodes piano and 70’s fuzz guitars combine to conjure a sound that is all of their own. With influences as diverse as Windhand, Bohren Und Der Club Of Gore, The Devil’s Blood, Jex Thoth, Angelo Badalamenti, Bellwitch, Urfaust, John Coltrane and Aluk Todolo, the band has moved from the droning occult doom of their first LP « Belfry » to a new, darker and more atmospheric approach clearly showcased in their new record « Feast for Water », a concept album centered on the introspective, symbolic and ritual features of the liquid element
